Robert J. Shellenberger 1937-2024

CAMPBELL — Robert J. Shellenberger, 86, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024.

Robert was born June 3, 1937, in Youngstown, a son of Charles James and Susie DelSignore Shellenberger. He was a 1956 graduate of East High School and had been a parishioner of the former Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown.

Robert honorably served his country for four years in the United States Army.

He had been employed as a steelworker and retired from the former Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co.

Robert will be remembered as a very hard worker and as a man who loved his family. He enjoyed gardening and was an excellent storyteller. He was proud of his Italian heritage, which came from his mother’s side. Above all, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, the former Carole Langenheim, whom he married Jan. 12, 1965; and his daughters, Sherry Ann (Mark) Shellenberger of Campbell and Rita Marie (Mike) McPeek of Dayton; his sons, Robert Joseph Shellenberger of Cincinnati and Kevin Thomas (Lillian) Shellenberger of Hubbard. He also leaves his grandchildren, Matthew Louis (Rosey) Shellenberger Sr., Sienna Noelle McPeek, Maximillian James McPeek, Killian Michael McPeek and Ralissa Lylianna Suarez; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Louis Shellenberger Jr. and Isaiah Shellenberger. Robert also leaves his sister, Janet (Emmett) Woodrum of Youngstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Rachel Lynn; two sisters, Marie Schmy and Betty Taylor; and his son-in-law, Tim Shellenberger.

The Shellenberger family has entrusted Robert’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell. Robert’s family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
