John Burton Beggs 1942-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — June 12, 2022, John told Theresa that Jesus said he would be taking him home soon. John then spent a couple of hours remembering his life, the good and bad events, with tremendous clarity, and said, “I have had a good life and our Lord has been wonderful to me!”

The Lord gave him another year to celebrate his 81st birthday and his 59th wedding anniversary in June.

On Feb. 6, 2024, his suffering ended and he returned to the Lord.

John was the son of Ralph and Margaret Branagan Beggs, born June 26, 1942. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1960, and attended Youngstown State University.

On June 13, 1964, he married Theresa Krupa Beggs, and they had four children. John retired from GMAC after 30 years and had a home computer business for about 10 years. He and Theresa enjoyed traveling, especially to Michigan and Virginia, and he loved kayaking for many years.

John was one of the leaders in the Sure Foundation Music Ministry and was involved with several prayer groups and healing ministries, Catholic and ecumenical, since 1976. As a member of St. Christine Church, John was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Holy Name Society, made Christ Renews His Parish, and was a member of The Renewal Choir. He was, also, one of the founding leaders of the St. Christine Charismatic prayer group of 30 years.

John leaves Theresa, his wife; and his four children, John Brian, Matthew (Cristina), Terri (Jason) Fabian and Erin (Ted) Conway; along with grandchildren, Jason and Autumn Fabian, Carter and Nora Beggs, and Teddy and Evan Conway.

Besides his parents; his brother, Michael Terlesky; and his stepfathers, Michael Terlesky and William Mason, preceded him in death.

Surviving him are his sisters and brothers, Roberta (Chris) Tornello, Susan (Joe) Verostko, Karen (Doug) Thomas, Bill (Kathy) Mason, Daniel (Alona) Mason, Kathryn (Ken) Michiels, Patrick Mason and Ellen Mentzer; and several nieces and nephews.

The Beggs family is extremely grateful to all the staff of Windsor House at Canfield for the loving care and concern you showed John and us in his time with you. Special thanks to the Traditions Hospice Team, also, for their help and support in John’s final days with us.

Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown.
