Arthur Friedman 1947-2024
LIBERTY — Arthur Friedman, 76, of Liberty Township, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Art was born on April 25, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to Maurice and Edna Friedman. He grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Niles East High School in 1965, then attended Bradley University and the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy.
Art worked as a pharmacist in the Youngstown area for over 40 years.
In 1972, Art married his wife, Phyllis, who he met while they were working as social workers in Chicago. Art and Phyllis returned to Youngstown, where Phyllis grew up, to raise their children. The couple were married for 51 years.
Art was an active member of the local Jewish community, including serving as co-president of Temple El Emeth. After his retirement, he volunteered his time with Hospice of the Valley, became an avid bridge player, and made good friends with “the guys” at Cardiac Rehab. Art loved photography, tinkering around his house and gardening.
More than anything, Art cherished his family, and he never hesitated to tell his children and grandchildren how much he loved them and how proud he was of their accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Matthew (Katherine) Friedman of Los Angeles, Michael Friedman of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and Lauren (Andrew) Klein of Shaker Heights; and grandchildren, Rachel and Jonah Klein, and Ziva, Liora and Shira Friedman. He is also survived by sisters, Barbara (Craig) Horn and Ronna (Avery) Baron, both of Chicago; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Sol and Rae Karner.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 26, 2024, in Itt’s Memorial Chapel, Anshe Emeth Cemetery, 588 Granada Ave., Youngstown 44505, with calling hours a half hour prior to service in the cemetery chapel.
Donations in his memory can be made to Hospice of the Valley or Temple El Emeth.
