Robert J. Scurry 1942-2023
YOUNGSTOWN –Mr. Robert James Scurry, 80, departed this life to his eternal peace, Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
Mr. Scurry was born Dec. 26, 1942, in Meadville, Pa., a son of Cornelius Scurry and Veryle Drake.
He was a 1962 graduate of Brookfield High School and attended Youngstown State University for music. Robert was a deputy sheriff from 1975 to 1985 in Youngstown. He was employed as a bus driver with WRTA for 17 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1990. He was also a bus driver for chartered bus tours for 10 years and a school bus driver for Masury public schools.
Mr. Robert Scurry was an Army veteran, serving two tours overseas. He attended St. Patrick Church. He attained 32nd degree Mason status with the Blue Lodge.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved sister, Dennis M. Floyd of Masury; a brother, Victor L. Scurry of Warren; niece, Patricia James of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and nephew, Leslie Evans of Kalamazoo, Mich. He also leaves to mourn great-nieces and -nephews, Shamilya M. James, Jared James, Darren Wilson and Ciera Evans; and a host of loving family and friends, including special friend and caregiver, Alonzo Green of Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Russell Scurry.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, Youngstown. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.
