James E. Sullivan 1952-2023

LAURENS, S.C. — James Earl Sullivan, 70, formerly of Canfield, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home, Friday, Jan. 13, 2023.

Born in Youngstown, he was the son of the late Gene and Geneva McCleery Sullivan.

After three long years of battling cancer, he is now reunited with his wife of 45 years, Sallie S. Sullivan.

Jim was the president of RB Fabricators Inc. in Youngstown from 1998 until his retirement in 2022. Jim grew up in Bridle Buddies, the 4-H group that his parents and their friends founded. Jim enjoyed any activity that involved the outdoors. Jim was involved with the Boy Scouts, “earning” an EagleScout badge for his son, Adam. He was an avid hiker, camper and photographer. He had hiked some of the Appalachian Trail, the Grand Tetons, the Rocky Mountains, the Adirondack Mountains and the Smokey Mountains.

As a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Jim earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed attending fly-in pancake breakfasts. With his love for the outdoors, he also loved to travel, including his multiple cross-country trips, the Alaskan land and sea cruise, Disney vacations, spending the last few winters in Florida, as well as many other adventures. He enjoyed tinkering and learning how things worked, taking things apart and fixing them all the time.

Jim was a member of Greenford Christian Church in Greenford, where Jim and Sallie were proudly baptized together in 2016.

Jim leaves behind his children, Megan (Steve) Hruska of Greenville, S.C. and Adam James Sullivan of Raleigh, N.C.; his siblings, Kathy Sullivan of Canfield, Roberta “Birdie” (Harry) Reinhart of Canfield, Mark (Jody) Sullivan of New Middletown, David (Sharon) Sullivan of Canfield, Jody (Robert) Guthrie of Salem and Rebecca (Dan) Megown of Canfield; a brother-in-law, Brian Kimmel of Burton; a sister-in-law, Gail “Cookie” (Michael) Hull of Boardman; two grandchildren, Tyler Sullivan and Evan Hruska of Greenville, S.C.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim also leaves behind Sallie’s beloved animals, especially Penny the Pug.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at Greenford Christian Church in Canfield.

Flowers are welcomed and memorials may be made to Greenford Christian Church, 11767 Lisbon Road Greenford, OH 44422.
