The Rev. Marian Babjak 1971-2022

YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Marian Babjak, 51, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2022.

Marian was born May 19, 1971, in Brezno, Slovakia, the son of Igor Babjak and Antonia Babjakova.

From September 1989 to June 1994, he attended Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, and received a Master of Arts degree in theology. From September 2001 to May 2004 he attended Catholic University in Lublin, Poland, and received a Master of Arts degree in philosophy.

He was ordained to the priesthood June 3, 1995, by Bishop Rudolf Balaz, in the Church of St. Martin in Teplicka nad Vahom.

After his priestly ordination, the Rev. Marian Babjak served for the Diocese of Banska Bystrica, Diocese of Vienna, Austria, and the Diocese of Zilina, Slovakia.

The Rev. Babjak’s first visit to the Diocese of Youngstown was in 2005, where he resided and assisted with sacramental duties at St. Rose Parish in Girard.

Returning to the Diocese of Youngstown in 2016, he served as parochial vicar of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Boardman, St. Paul Parish in North Canton and as pastor of Christ Our Savior Parish in Struthers.

In addition to his parents, the Rev. Babjak leaves two brothers, Lubomir (Gabriela) Babjak and Igor (Barbora) Babjak in Slovakia.

The Rev. Babjak will be buried in his native Slovakia.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at the Cathedral of St. Columba, 144 West Wood St., Youngstown, with the Most Rev. David J. Bonnar presiding. The Rev. J. James Korda will serve as homilist. All are welcome to attend.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
