Patricia A. Cicatiello 1942-2022

AUSTINTOWN — Patricia Ann Godec Cicatiello, 80, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, animal advocate and friend to all, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022.

She was born May 25, 1942, in Girard, to Ann and Edward Godec.

Pat grew up in Girard where she graduated valedictorian from Girard High School and was a proud member of the “Geese Sisterhood.” She was also valedictorian at Mount Sinai Nursing School, where she received her RN degree. While attending nursing school, Pat met, fell in love with and married the man that became her best friend and husband of 58 years, Tom Cicatiello. Soon after, Tom earned his B.S. from Youngstown University and they began their pursuit of the American dream. Pat and Tom had three children in three different cities as they chased better opportunities. Finally grounding in Austintown, they built their first home and raised their kids.

Pat, a.k.a. Mama Chick, was the matriarch of the family. She instilled her drive for learning in her kids and took them to swim, tennis, softball and baseball practices, while ensuring everything was taken care of at home. Pat was a voracious reader, avid flower gardener and a wicked good 500-bid card player. She had many hobbies over the years, such as swimming and playing tennis at Canfield Swim and Tennis Club, painting ceramics, sewing, stitching needlepoint, crocheting blankets and collecting coupons — even used a few –but Pat’s special gift was creating a welcoming home for all.

Pat’s big heart was also open to animals, including dogs and cats. She loved cats and cats loved her. Over the years, Pat fostered dozens of cats and she and her sister volunteered countless hours at Angels for Animals. To be close to her sister, Pat and Tom moved to Port St. Lucie, Fla., where she and her sister loved hunting for sea shells. Eventually, Pat and Tom returned home to Austintown.

Pat is survived by her husband, Thomas; sister, Nancy Klingensmith (nephew, Michael) and brother-in-law, John Kusnir of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; daughter, Judi (daughter-in-law, Julie, granddaughter, Maddie) of Columbus; and son, Mike (daughter-in-law, Deanna, grandchildren, Thomas and Sophia) of Rogers, Ark.

Pat was preceded in death by her son, David; niece, Nicole; and parents.

In her 80 years, Pat touched so many with her love, smart humor and servant’s heart. She was especially proud of her kids and grandkids, and supported them in everything they did.

There was a private service held Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at Schiavone Funeral Home in Youngstown. Pat will rest in Cavalry Cemetery in Youngstown.

All who loved Pat are encouraged to support Angels for Animals Veterinary Care and Shelter, “A Place of Hope, Healing, Compassion, Companionship, Faith and Trust” for cats and dogs, by making a donation atwww.angelsforanimals.org.
