Gertrude D. Dietz 1924-2022
EDINBURG, Pa. — Gertrude D. Dietz, 97, passed away Sunday morning, July 3, 2022, at Jameson Care Center.
Born in Youngstown, on Dec. 8, 1924, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Larry and Catherine Boos Sturgeon.
Preceding her in death, on Feb. 28, 1999, was her husband of more than 55 years, Fred C. Dietz Jr., whom she married Aug. 28, 1943.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. James the Apostle Church. Gertrude worked for Pine Hills Market as a meat cutter for over 25 years until she retired. She enjoyed playing cards, flower gardening, traveling to and visiting Lake Erie. Gertrude also enjoyed time with her family and having family gatherings and picnics.
Gertrude is survived by her four children, Sandra L. Binder; David L. Dietz and wife, Denise; Jeffrey G. Dietz and wife, Christine; and Patrice Felger and husband, Michael; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael Binder; brother, William Sturgeon; and her sisters, Mary Skovira, Dorothy Curry and Margaret Zimmerman.
Visitation is from noon to 1:15 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, for St. Vitus Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., officiated by Father Brendan Dawson. Burial will take place in St. James Cemetery.
