Lamonte Jones Sr. 1953-2022

YOUNGSTOWN — Mr. Lamonte Jones Sr., 68, transitioned from his earthly life to his eternal home Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022.

Mr. Jones was born April 30, 1953, in Chicago, Ill., a son of Kelly and Lozella Leonard Jones. He was a 1972 graduate of East High School, after which he joined the Marine Corps and then the Army National Guard, retiring after 30 years of service. Lamonte also worked for the Calex Corporation.

He was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, its male Chorus and the “Brotherhood.” He was also a member of the American Legion Post 504.

Lamonte enjoyed music, loved to sing and his passion was being with his children, grandchildren and family.

He leaves to mourn his passing, but to rejoice in his heavenly peace, his wife, the former Debra Countryman, whom he married Dec. 27, 1980; three sons, Terell (Caroline) Jones and William Stubbs (Sonja Grace), both of Austintown, and James Jones of Youngstown; two daughters, Keisha Berry (Jermaine) Davis and Jasmine Jones, both of Youngstown; a sister, Cecelia Gardner of Alabama; 29 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Jimmie Poole; friends who were like brothers to him, Edward Korneagay of Youngstown and Billy White of Akron; his furry granddog, Briscoe; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lamonte Jones Jr.; and two sisters, Eddy Mae Strozier and Karen Dukes.

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Due to the pandemic, all guests are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing.
