Augustine Simone 1934-2022

AURORA — Augustine “Augie” Simone, 88, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 23, 1934, in Lowellville, to Pete and Eva Delisio Simone.

Augie was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, an avid golfer and a longtime Cleveland sports fan. He particularly loved the Browns. Augie was an accomplished saxophone player. He was a proud member of the Mount Carmel Band of Lowellville since he was in high school, the Penn Ohio Polka Pals, and joined his best friend in founding the Del Rezek Orchestra in 1955.

Augie had a long career with Revco / CVS drug stores. He opened and managed the Somerset, Pa., Distribution Center, where he was an active member of the community. He was honored as Rotarian of the Year, served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and was active in a variety of youth sports organizations.

Relocating to Ohio, he continued his career and retired as the vice president of Distribution Center Personnel, but family was his passion. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was their No. 1 fan and spent many hours attending their events.

Augie leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 67 years and high school sweetheart, Dorothy Mayberry Simone; children, Nora (Scott) Walker, Dave (Gayle) Simone, Tom (Dawn) Simone and Steve Simone; grandchildren, Erin (Robbie) Katzenmeyer, Matt (Danielle) Simone, Megan (Paul II) Minotti, Jessica (fiance, Colin McCabe) Simone and Robby Simone; great-grandchildren, Khloe and Logann Katzenmeyer, Claire Simone, Paul III (Trip) and Arline Minotti; and a sister, Ellen (Albert) Sanata.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Stella Derenzo.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora, with the Rev. Shawn Conoboy officiating. Entombment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
