Betty L. Greenway 1951-2021
YOUNGSTOWN — Betty L. Greenway, 70, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2021, at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Betty was born July 1, 1951, in Gulfport, Miss., a daughter of Eron and Ella DeMetz Tootle.
Raised in New Orleans, Betty was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Class of 1969. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Denver and her Master of Arts degree from the University of Warwick in England. Betty later received her Ph.D. from Tulane University in New Orleans. Betty was an English professor for the University of Mississippi, before accepting a teaching position in the English department of Youngstown State University. There, she taught for 20 years and retired in 2007.
Betty loved traveling, especially to Sanibel Island, Fla. and to Wales. At home, she enjoyed trips to the park with friends where they celebrated different events with milkshakes from Handel’s. Betty’s favorite was chocolate. She loved almost everything dark chocolate. She also liked learning about art, planting herbs to cook with and flowers to decorate her balcony.
Betty leaves her former husband, William Greenway Jr. of Ephrata, Pa.; brother-in-law, Bob Nesler of Portland, Ore.; niece, Katherine Nesler of Denver, Colo.; nephew, Christopher Nesler of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and many dear friends, including Kimbra (Michael) Williamson of Youngstown.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Nesler.
