Betty R. Payne 1927-2020
NORTH LIMA — Betty R. Payne, 93, formerly of Poland, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, at Assumption Village, with her family by her side.
Betty was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Jackson, the daughter of the late Rev. Lloyd Barthlow and his wife, the former Edna Clapper.
She graduated from Canal Fulton High School in 1945. In 1948, Betty and her husband, Richard, moved to the area.
Betty was a member of Poland Village Baptist Church and a former member of Struthers Baptist Tabernacle Church for over 30 years, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, and the ladies missionary group. She also was a volunteer Blue Bird leader.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister and was devoted to her faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Linda M. (Dave) Horton of Struthers, JoAnn Aeppli of Hubbard, Debra R. (Richard) Lonardo of Poland and Marie E. Utsinger of Boardman; two sons, James E. (Pam) Payne and Chris A. (Loretta) Payne, both of Poland; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard G. Payne, whom she married on Jan. 16, 1948, and who died Sept. 5, 1997; a daughter, Peggy L. Harris; a son-in-law, Edward Aeppli; and a sister, Martha E. Brown.
Due to COVID-19, private graveside services were held on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at Poland Riverside Cemetery with Pastor Brian Ethridge officiating. There are no calling hours.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Poland Village Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 79 Hill Drive, Poland, Ohio 44514, in memory of Betty.
Arrangements were handled by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St. in Poland.
