Mary R. Catanzarite 1927-2020

COLUMBUS — Mary Rita Catanzarite (nee Mansour), 92, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020.

Mary is survived by her son, Patrick (Jodi) and her grandchildren, Caroline, Dominic and John of Worthington. In addition to her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, Mary is survived by her brother, Albert Mansour Sr. and sister Sandra Mansour, both of Youngstown, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Patsy Catanzarite; her parents, Nasif and Victoria Mansour of Youngstown; and siblings, Clara Cervone, Sarah Kovall, George Mansour Sr., Edward Mansour Sr., Eugene Mansour and Shirley Cutrer.

Mary, designated by family and friends as “the hostess with the mostest,” regularly hosted holiday dinners or other celebrations, and her home was always open to her son’s friends and nieces and nephews who regularly congregated there. She was so welcoming, quick to laugh and always joined in the fun. Mary’s talent as a cook, enjoyed by anyone who visited her home, was rivaled only by her gift as a baker. Everyone loved her homemade pizza, Lebanese bread, cookies and cakes, and her contributions to cookie tables at family weddings were legendary. Mary’s generosity and love for her family knew no bounds.

Mary’s son and his family were her pride and joy. She took delight in doing anything she could to make their visits home special. Of equal importance was her devotion to the church. She was a devout Catholic and lifetime member of St. Columba Cathedral, where she served for many years as a lector, Eucharistic minister and church council member.

Mary and her husband Patsy enjoyed dining out, dancing, traveling and spending time with friends and family. In addition to her role as a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, Mary worked for the United Steelworkers Union from 1962 to 1987, where she was a deft and meticulous secretary. Mary will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
