Shirley M. Schmidt 1940-2020

Shirley was born March 10, 1940, in Austintown, the daughter of the late Bernard and Irma McGlaughlin Hendricks.

A lifelong resident of Austintown, she graduated from Austintown Fitch High School and Youngstown State University. After receiving both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from YSU, she began a career in education, serving the Austintown community for more than 32 years as a teacher at Austintown Middle School. Upon retirement in 1996 she continued her dedication to education as a long-term substitute teacher.

Shirley was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church and the Austintown Junior Women’s League. She enjoyed cross stitch needlework and traveling with her late husband, Frank.

She will be missed by her children, Kevin (Kathy) Schmidt, Keith (Debbie) Schmidt and Kimberly (Doug) Lewindowski; her grandchildren, Jamie (Sam) Pritchard, Dylan Schmidt, Matthew Schmidt, Caitlin (Jeff) Brigham, Brianna Lewandowski, Alex Luxon, Rachel Brown, Kimberly Brown; and great-grandchildren, Addison Brown, Cory Brown, Kennedy Brigham and baby girl Pritchard, due to arrive in September. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank C. Schmidt.

Private family services have been held with burial at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
