High winds and heavy rains whipped through Mahoning County on Sunday afternoon, causing heavy damage to portions of Austintown, Boardman and Canfield.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, about 27,000 county residents were without power, according to Ohio Edison. Six hundred outages were reported in Trumbull County.
The Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency and Boardman firefighters urge residents of North Boardman and North Canfield to stay home to permit crews to clean up damage from fallen trees and flooding.
Boardman firefighters reported about 1 foot of water at the intersection of South Avenue and Route 224.
A flash flood watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
