Mary Agnes Turkiewicz 1941-2020

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — Mary Agnes Yore Turkiewicz, 78, born July 24, 1941, died peacefully at home March 7, 2020.

Mary Agnes attended Blessed Sacrament School, Mount St Mary Academy, and Sisters of Charity Hospital Nursing School (1962) in Buffalo, N.Y. She worked at Warren General Hospital as a registered nurse and at Heritage Manor as director of nursing. She maintained her license until passing.

She married Richard Paul Turkiewicz July 11, 1964, at Blessed Sacrament Church. They celebrated their 55th anniversary with family in Charlotte, N.C., last summer.

Mary Agnes and Richard lived in Western New York, Youngstown, Ohio (1980) and in Winter Springs (since 1989). Mary Agnes and Richard had three children: Suzanne, Michael and Cynthia.

Mary Agnes found pure joy in golf, following PGA and LPGA golfers and volunteering at tournaments. She cheered on U.S. golf teams at Rider and Solheim Cups in Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

She was an active member of the Women’s Club at University of Central Florida (Book Worms and Gourmet Dining), Tuscawilla Women’s Golf Association, St. Stephens Nursing Group, Bentley Green Luncheon Group and the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Suzanne (Jim) Elkins of Lexington, S.C., Michael (Niki) Turkiewicz of Chicago, Ill., and Glenn (Cynthia, deceased 2015) Christopher of Youngstown; sisters, Elizabeth Anne (Frank) Swiatek of Cheektowaga, N.Y., Barbara (Cooper) Lansing of Stuart, Fla., and Robyn Yore (David Blask) of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Dr. Mary Lou Turkiewicz (Bill Nowakowski) of Savannah, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Agnes had 12 grandchildren: Kyle (Brittany) Zimmerle of Cleveland, Ohio, Katie Zimmerle of Columbia, S.C., Shelia and Allison Christopher of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Elizabeth Elkins of Bloomington, Ind., Nikki Elkins of Muncie, Ind., Tristan Turkiewicz of Oxford, Miss., Trafford Turkiewicz of Bozeman, Mont., Glenn Christopher IV, of Youngstown, Blythe Turkiewicz of Portland, Ore. and Ariana and Mila Turkiewicz of Chicago. She found great joy in their lives and beating them in spirited games of UNO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Robert Yore, and by a daughter, Cynthia Turkiewicz Christopher.

A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Winter Springs, followed by a gathering.

Mary Agnes was extremely proud of her Irish and Polish heritage, thus, the family will be gathering at St. Stephens St. Patrick’s Day party, an event she always enjoyed.
