Michael E. Morgan 1946-2020

LEBANON — Michael Edwin Morgan, 73, passed peacefully Feb. 5, 2020, surrounded by his family and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan’s music.

Mike was born Aug. 12, 1946, in Youngstown, where he lived almost his entire life before moving to southern Ohio eight years ago to be near his son, daughter and their families.

Mike graduated from Austintown Fitch High School and was employed 42 years before retiring from Delphi Packard Electric. He was an active member of the IUE Local 717.

He served his country as a track vehicle mechanic with the 23rd Artillery Group in the U.S. Army Pacific Command in Vietnam. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He rarely missed a sporting event or school program. He made a point to spend individual time with them, often taking them out for dinner, as he truly enjoyed a good meal.

He enjoyed trivia nights and the Tuesday night dinner crew with his friends, whom he loved to tease and jab at every opportunity. He was known for his sense of humor, one-liners and ability to be incredibly frank. Mike never cared about what anyone thought about him, a trait that would prove challenging to his family, especially at his grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was known to be very vocal.

Later in his life, he successfully reinvigorated the poker group at his retirement community as well as helping organize a group to advocate for veterans.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Mike cared passionately about children, supporting the Ronald McDonald House of Dayton and his granddaughter’s charity project, More Give, Less Get. He was incredibly giving, selfless and never wanted recognition.

He is survived by his children, Lori (Chris) Kershner, Todd (Kathy) Morgan and Tim Morgan; grandchildren, Morgan, Tatum, Alexis, Michael, Elizabeth, Randy and Savannah; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Danny Morgan.

He was proceeded in death by his mother, Mae Morgan.

Even in death, he continued to give by donating his eyes for research.

Mike would like everyone to “Keep America Great” with their vote for President Trump in November, because he is unable to cast his.

The family would like to thank the VA of Dayton, especially medical Director Dr. Tom Hardy, Dr. Kumar in oncology and Dr. Agrawal in GI, as well as the incredibly caring nurses and physicians in hospice.

As Mike loved to host parties for friends and family, “Grandpa’s Last Hurrah” will be held 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 23, 2020, at the Jones Pavilion at Armco Park in Lebanon. Join his family for live music, food, poker and memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to be made the Dayton VA Hospice: Dayton VA Medical Center (135), 4100 West Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428. Write “Michael Morgan” in the memo line.
