William C. Bigelow, 1930-2019

YOUNGSTOWN — William Carleton Bigelow, 89, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, at Hospice House in Poland.

Bill was born April 12, 1930, in Maumee, a son of Charles C. and Ildah Brinsmaid Bigelow.

Bill was a self-employed consultant. He was a graduate of Maumee High School and received his bachelor’s degree from William and Mary College and later earned his MBA.

Bill served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.

Bill was a member of First Covenant Church, where he served on several boards. He also served on the boards of the YMCA, Austintown Schools PTA, the Youngstown Optimist, Camp Mission Meadows in Dewittville, N.Y., and was past president of Hands on Volunteer Network.

Bill loved gardening. He enjoyed having parties and entertaining family and friends and especially enjoyed traveling to Barbados with his family.

Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Carol Swisher, whom he married Oct. 28, 1961; his daughters, Pamela Bigelow of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Penny (Steven) Bigelow Golden of Chicago; and his grandchildren, Connor, Reilly, Callie and Flannery Golden.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Robert Bigelow.

There will be an 11:30 a.m. celebration of life Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at Davidson’s Restaurant, Cornersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be given to Camp Mission Meadows, 5201 East Lake Road, Dewittville, NY 14728, to Covenant Harbor Bible Camp, 1724 W. Main Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147 or to the Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown, OH 44511.
