Austintown school board to auction property

AUSTINTOWN — The Austintown Board of Education at a special meeting earlier this month approved a resolution declaring that a vacant 9.1-acre parcel of land on Woodridge Drive is no longer needed for school purposes. The property, which has an estimated value of $109,320, will be offered for sale through a public auction. A date for the auction has not yet been announced. New jobless claims rise in Ohio

Staff report Initial unemployment claims statewide jumped 1,613 last week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday. Ohioans filed 7,719 initial unemployment claims May 31 through June 6. Ohioans filed 41,073 continued unemployment during the period, which was 1,483 more than the previous week. The total number of claims filed for the period was 48,792. The state unemployment rate in April was 3.9%. The national unemployment rate in April was 4.3%. YOUNGSTOWN — Nina Mayer, 30, is in the Mahoning County jail charged with felony burglary for an incident early Friday in which she startled a Fifth Avenue woman by walking into the resident’s bathroom after allegedly breaking into the home.
