Bill would require Border Patrol to adopt shelter dogs

Congressman Dave Joyce introduced a bill to require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to establish a pilot program to adopt dogs from local animal shelters to be trained as part of the agency’s Support Canine Program. The CBP in 2023 launched the Support Canine Program to improve staff morale, assist in grief, aid in trauma recovery from critical incidents and strengthen community outreach. Ex-Boardman coach pleads guilty to assault, sexual battery

YOUNGSTOWN — Kevin C. Randolph, 70, of Stadium Drive in Boardman, a former Boardman High School bowling coach, pleaded guilty recently to charges of felonious assault and sexual battery involving a minor. As a Tier II sex offender, he will have to register his address every six months in the county where he lives for 25 years, according to the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office. Randolph will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 13 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. He could get about 10 years in prison, but prosecutors will recommend that he get two to three years in prison ...

Girard advances data center moratorium

GIRARD — The city is the latest community in the Mahoning Valley wanting to place a moratorium on data centers, with city council giving second reading Monday to legislation putting a one-year moratorium in place. Final reading on the legislation is scheduled for the July 13 meeting, after which the moratorium will immediately take effect.
