Girard rescinds layoff for intervention specialist

GIRARD — The Girard City Schools Board of Education this week approved bringing back an intervention specialist whose job was among three positions the board cut at its May meeting. The board on Tuesday rescinded its previous motion from May and approved Maria Jarvis as an intervention specialist for the 2026-27 school year. The board also approved transferring Grace Swertfager from intervention specialist to ED/MD intervention specialist for the upcoming school year. Playhouse forms membership program

“Membership has its privileges” was a credit card company’s advertising slogan in the 1980s, and Youngstown Playhouse is using that philosophy with a new option to lure theatergoers. Youngstown board signs contract for ’27 project to improve 3 main streets

YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s board of control approved an agreement with the state for about $1.43 million worth of improvements to three main streets in which the city will pay about $53,000 of the cost. The board voted 3-0 Thursday on the agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation for repaving and drainage work for a project that will start in spring 2027. The board consists of Mayor Derrick McDowell, Finance Director Kyle Miasek and Law Director Adam Buente.
