Weathersfield plans for National Night Out
WEATHERSFIELD — A National Night Out is coming Aug. 4 after township officials approved a community event designed to help residents get to know their local police officers and firefighters.
The event will be hosted by the Weathersfield Community Connection Partners, 6 to 8 p.m. at the township park off state Route 46.
Township trustees said they recognize the importance of fostering positive relationships between residents and public safety personnel through community engagement and educational activities.
National Night Out is an annual nationwide community-building campaign designed to promote police-community partnerships, strengthen neighborhood camaraderie, enhance public safety awareness and build safer, stronger communities.
Township Administrator David Rouan said members of the police and fire departments and emergency medical service personnel will be at the event for touch-a-truck displays. The event will include food, music and entertainment.
Trustees said they appreciate the commitment and dedication of the Weathersfield Community Connection Partners for organizing this event and recognizing the value of providing opportunities for meaningful interaction between township residents and their local first responders.
In other business at this week’s trustee meeting, trustees approved Rouan preparing and submitting an application to the Ohio Public Works Commission state capital improvement and local transportation programs for financial assistance for improvements to township highways located in the Hilltop area. The local 61% share for the project is not to exceed $240,000.
Trustees also approved Rouan seeking $2,500 for a cemetery grant through the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing.
Trustees adopted a resolution to enter into a contract for $154,627 with R.T. Vernal Paving & Excavating Inc. of North Lima for the Watson Marshall Road improvements project, as bid by the Trumbull County Commissioners and the engineer’s office.
The Watson Marshall Road improvements project is being funded with up to $70,000 from the Ohio Public Works Commission and up to $110,932 in local match for a project total up to $180,932.
