POLAND — The Poland Historical Society will offer a new scholarship this year, geared toward a graduating senior from Poland Seminary High School.
“This scholarship reflects our commitment to honoring the past while investing in the future,” said Poland Historical Society President Laurie Fox. “The recipient will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship, applied directly to their student account at their accredited post‑secondary institution to support tuition or educational expenses.”
Part of the criteria for the scholarship involves demonstrating excellence in academics, extracurricular participation and the community. The recipient should be headed to a university, college, trade school, technical program, nursing school or community college to qualify.
“We’re proud to support the next generation of Bulldogs as they begin their next chapter,” Fox said.
“We’re looking for students who demonstrate community involvement, a spirit of service and a commitment to continuing their education,” Fox said.
She said students interested in the program can pick up an application at the high school guidance office. The application and all required materials must be submitted by April 15. It can be mailed to Poland Historical Society, P.O. Box 5052, Poland, OH 44514 or emailed to: phsscholarship@polandhistoricalsociety.com
“(Each) application will be reviewed based on academic achievement, community involvement, the quality of the essay and the fulfillment of the eligibility criteria,” Fox said.
She asked students applying to follow all instructions carefully and submit it by the April 15 deadline.
“We look forward to learning more about the student’s journey and hopes for the future,” she said. “We thank students for being part of what makes Poland such a special place.”
Fox said the hope is to make this a tradition each year, but in order to do so, the society will rely on donations. She asks people to consider donating to the PHS Scholarship Fund by mailing a check to: Poland Historical Society, Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 5052, Poland, OH 44514 or submit the donation through Zelle to phs@polandhistoricalsociety.com and be sure to indicate the donation is for the scholarship fund.
