Acting Hubbard mayor provides updates on gas, Senior Day
HUBBARD — The city’s acting mayor provided updates on utilities, addressing concerns some residents have shared online.
At Monday’s regular meeting, acting Mayor Mike Mogg said there has been a “squabble” on social media about individuals saying they have been overcharged on their gas bills. Mogg told them not to call the mayor’s office.
“One, we do not handle the gas bills. Number two — check your gas bills, your previous two, and see if you’re still in contract,” Mogg said. “If you’re not in contract and you went out of contract, your rates shot up and there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Mogg encouraged residents to contact their suppliers and look up “Apples to Apples,” a website enabling residents and businesses to compare natural gas and electric supplier rates and contract terms to find one that suits them.
Mogg said Service Director Ed Palestro will walk along North Main Street next week with Enbridge Gas representatives to look at sidewalks and streets that need repairs, following the company replacing 5,400 feet of bare steel gas lines with corrosion-resistant plastic lines. That project, which began in September, wrapped up recently.
“The sidewalks are going to be prioritized because a lot of people walk up through and we want to make those safe for them,” Mogg said. “That will be taken care of next week, and hopefully we’ll have that report at the next meeting.”
SENIOR DAY
Mogg said he was contacted by Andrea Stamp, a Hubbard Schools math teacher, who informed him that April 10 is Senior Day at the high school, which is when the seniors clean up the area and help local organizations.
Mogg said Stamp asked about helping with the parks again, adding that he plans on putting her in touch with Councilwoman Bonnie Viele, D-1st Ward, who oversees the parks and Councilwoman Robin Zambrini, D-2nd Ward, who oversees the cemeteries.
“I will also check with the maintenance gentlemen here at the city building to see if they could use a few people to do some minor work up here,” Mogg said. “If anybody else can think of anything, let me know and I’ll pass it to her. I think it’s a good thing these kids do, there’s a lot, and they do a nice job.”
