WHAT: Board of education February meeting

The board:
• Officially recognized two dozen Boardman High School digital and studio art students who created six pieces of artwork that will hang on the walls in the new Boardman High School STEAM Lab. Digital art students designed the artwork using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, then Studio Art students transferred the designs to canvas.
• Approved the financial report for January and the district’s five-year forecast.
• Passed a resolution to challenge the property valuation for Zidian Management LLC and Steel City Wash LLC to the Mahoning County auditor.
• Approved an agreement with Olsavsky Jaminet Architects, Inc. for design professional services in an amount not to exceed $6,500.
• Declared an urgent necessity and waived competitive bidding to authorize an agreement with The Murphy Contracting Co. for the stairwell and retaining wall repairs, with a contract amount not to exceed $110,485, plus limited change order authority.
• Approved membership for Boardman High School and Glenwood Junior High School in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2026-27 school year.
• Approved a $200 stipend for Amber Collins for time spent preparing for a professional development workshop.
• Approved the transfer of Michael Trella from Cleaning III-Maintenance Helper to Custodian First Assistant at Boardman High School.
• Approved the following appointments: Justine Burkey, assistant track coach at $2,959.32; Luke Gidorkis, Boardman High School assistant track coach at $2,959.32; Grace Beil, Boardman High School, assistant track coach at $2,113.80; Kristi Brayer, Boardman High School girls lacrosse assistant coach at $2,113.80; Lindsay Connell, Boardman High School assistant softball coach at $4,227.60; Scott Denham, Boardman High School assistant track coach at $2,959.32; Lucas Dray, Boardman High School boys lacrosse assistant coach at $2,113.80; Ashlee Frazzini, Boardman High School assistant track coach at $1,691.04; Egan Hare, Boardman High School boys lacrosse assistant coach at $2,113.80; Ray Hill, Boardman High School assistant baseball coach at $4,227.60; Jake Lape, Boardman High School assistant track coach at $845.52; Kalie Luklan, Boardman High School assistant softball coach at $2,959.32; Fred Mootz, Boardman High School softball head coach at $7,609.68; Matt Pavone, Boardman High School girls lacrosse head coach at $2,113.80; Brianna Valentini, Boardman High School girls lacrosse assistant coach, $2,536.56; Darien Williams, Boardman High School assistant track coach at $2,959.32; Patrick Wynn, Boardman High School girls lacrosse assistant coach at $2,536.54; and Gary Lendak and Zach Patton as volunteer baseball coaches at Boardman High School.
• Approved the following resignations: Justine Burkey, Boardman High School assistant volleyball coach; Pamela Choleva, Stadium Drive Elementary kindergarten teacher, retirement; Mikel Flatley, Boardman High School assistant tennis coach; Sharlene Sipple, Boardman Glenwood Junior High School health teacher, retirement; Jasmine Boyd, West Boulevard Elementary School Cleaning I; Clara Dennis, Boardman Center Intermediate School cleaning staff, retirement; Beth DeVore, Boardman High School teacher aide, retirement; Laurie Kohuth, bus driver, retirement; and Marc Pupino, bus aide, retirement.
• Approved the following donations: $1,078 from Robert Senn Studio, Inc. to pupil support at Boardman Glenwood Junior High School; $370.25 from Boardman United Methodist Church for the Glenwood Pantry and Bryt Room at Boardman Center Intermediate School; $1,725 from Robert Senn Studio, Inc to pupil support at West Boulevard Elementary; and $1,046 from Robert Senn Studio, Inc to pupil support.

The board:
• Agreed to place a five-year, 5.9-mill renewal levy for current expenses on the May 5 ballot. A permanent levy of the same amount failed in November.
• Granted Beth Habeger a three-year, 261-day contract as food services supervisor at $23,186 annually.
• Granted Patricia Ambrosin an additional one-year limited contract as a noontime monitor at Robinwood Lane Elementary at $15,625.
• Granted Pamela DeVicchio a one-year limited contract as a cafeteria server at Robinwood Lane at $4,291.32.
• Granted Ian Norris a one-year limited contract as a cleaning worker at Boardman High School at $14,021.41.
• Granted Rebecca Parry a one-year limited contract as a teacher aide at Boardman Center Intermediate at $12,346.53.
• Granted Bonnie Prato a one-year limited contract as a cleaning worker at Boardman Glenwood Junior High School at $14,021.41.
• Granted Karen Sanfrey a one-year limited contract as a teacher aide for intensive needs at Stadium Drive Elementary at $15,883.47. She also will receive an additional supplement of $6,000 for intensive needs aide for cross-categorical rooms and behavior support rooms.
• Hired Sara Sandora as a Boardman Glenwood Junior High School home instruction tutor and Dale Duncan as a Boardman Center Intermediate School home instruction tutor, both at $20 per hour.
• Approved Randall Gains, Rebecca Horton and Christina Kartchner being enrolled in the new transportation training program at $16.50 per hour.
• Approved the following transfers: Katherine McFall from a cleaning I position at Boardman High School to a custodian III at Boardman High School; John Severn from a cleaning I at Boardman Center Intermediate School to a custodian II / storeroom / courier at Central Office; Angela Testa from a teacher aide at West Boulevard to a general office secretary at Boardman High School; and Kathy Young from a teacher aide-intensive needs at Boardman Center Intermediate School to a teacher aide at the same school.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Beth Bean as Stadium Drive Elementary School independent aide-computer room.
• Approved a stipend of $450 for Jonathan Linko, associate director for “Annie,” the fall musical production at the middle school.
• Accepted the following donations: $200 from the Boardman Civic Association to student support account; $840 from an anonymous donor to pay off student cafeteria debt; and $100 from Kathy and John Vadjunec for “Nick’s Kids” lunch account.
