Woman in custody in Wednesday dollar store robbery

Also held on Pennsylvania warrant for burglary

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department took a 35-year-old woman into custody Wednesday afternoon on a burglary warrant out of Pennsylvania and in connection to a robbery at the Family Dollar store at 2224 Market St.

Police responded to the store for a 1:55 p.m. call regarding a robbery that had just occurred, according to a Youngstown police report.

Officers were told that the vehicle the suspects were in was at a business at Glenwood and Kenmore avenues on the South Side. Officers went there and found the vehicle and questioned the two people in the vehicle, a woman and a male.

Money taken from both people was collected and logged into evidence, the report states. Both were taken to the Youngstown Police Department to speak with detectives. The woman was later taken to the Mahoning County jail on suspicion of being involved in the robbery. No new criminal charges were on file in Youngstown Municipal Court on Thursday afternoon for her, according to the court’s website.

A separate police report states that officers were alerted to the Family Dollar robbery and responded to the scene. They were told the vehicle involved had fled. But while speaking to employees about the robbery, officers were told that a male had come to the store to retrieve a cell phone the robber had dropped in the store’s parking lot, the report states.

The male then got into a gray Chevrolet Trax and drove away. An officer was able to see the Trax and saw that a Youngstown police cruiser was about to cross paths with it. A traffic stop on the Trax was performed by an officer at St. Louis and Oak Hill avenues. The vehicle pulled over without incident.

Two males in the car were detained in handcuffs, and the vehicle was searched. Officers found a copper crack pipe containing residue in the vehicle. Also found was a satchel with a pill bottle with the name of one of the men “inscribed” on it, the report states. Inside the bottle was a substance believed to be crack cocaine, the report states.

The man whose name was on the bottle was told he was under arrest for drug possession. He was taken to the police department to talk to detectives and then was taken to the Mahoning County jail. He had no new charges on file Thursday afternoon in Youngstown Municipal Court, according to online court records.

The other man was issued a summons to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court on a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge and was released. He also had no new charges on file Thursday afternoon.
