Testimony begins today in murder trial
YOUNGSTOWN — It took the whole day, but a jury was seated Monday in the murder trial of Kenneth L. Carter, 35, and Terry Hopkins, 23.
They are accused in the Jan. 24, 2025, killing of Resean Graham, 42, on Griselda Avenue on the South Side.
Carter is accused of murder and a gun specification, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and cocaine possession. Hopkins is accused of one count of murder and a gun specification.
Little information has been provided so far by police in the case. Youngstown police officers were called to Griselda at 7:36 p.m. Jan. 24 for a person who was shot, according to a Youngstown Police Department news release.
Officers saw the man lying near the front doorway with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and began life-saving measures until the arrival of ambulance personnel. However, Graham died at the scene.
Jury selection took all day, in part because of a medical emergency in the courtroom involving a potential juror in the gallery. A fellow potential juror who is an emergency medical technician assisted the person until ambulance personnel arrived to take the person to the hospital.
Judge Anthony Donofrio is presiding over the trial.
