Hubbard mayor to be released from Fla. hospital

Republic Services’ garbage fees to increase in city

HUBBARD — Residents and city officials received an update on Mayor Ben Kyle’s health following a crash on New Year’s Day while vacationing in the Bahamas.

Acting Mayor Michael Mogg said at Tuesday’s meeting that Kyle is still in Miami, rehabilitating at the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center at the University of Miami. Mogg added that Kyle was “progressing and feeling great.”

“He’s scheduled to be discharged next week to come back to Ohio — he’s not sure where in Ohio, but he’s coming back to Ohio hopefully next week,” Mogg said. “His wife, Sable, had her surgery today on her ankle; I have no idea what the outcome of that should be.”

SOLID WASTE COLLECTION

Mogg noted that there has been some talk on social media about Republic Services, the city’s partner for recycling and non-hazardous solid waste, and a rate increase.

“To let everybody know, Feb. 1 of 2026 to Jan. 31 of 2027, the rate is going to be $23.57 a month, $70.71 a quarter, $5.90 a week,” Mogg said. “On Feb. 1 of 2027, until Jan. 31 of 2028, your rate is going up to $25.22 per month, $75.56 a quarter or $6.37 a week.”

Mogg said Republic Services meets with the city every year to review, encouraging residents ages 62 and up to call the mayor’s office to get in touch with Mona Rance, the city’s customer service representative for the company.

“It’s a substantial savings for seniors — $45.57 per quarter — which is a pretty big savings,” Mogg said.
