Grant helps to pay for bike trail

WARREN — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is expected to release $75,000 to Trumbull County to be used to reimburse funds being spent on phase IV of the Western Reserve Greenway Bike Trail project.

This phase is connecting the bike path between Warren and NIles, according to Zachary Svette, executive director of Trumbull County MetroParks. This grant will pay a portion of the local share needed for the project.

The Lake to River Greenway in Trumbull County is primarily the Western Reserve Greenway Bike Trail, a scenic paved 16.7-mile multi-use path following an old rail line from Warren north through Bloomfield and Bristol townships into Ashtabula County, offering biking, walking and nature viewing with trailheads like Sunside and Oakfield.

The trail is a key link in the larger Great Ohio Lake to River Greenway, a planned 100-mile route connecting Lake Erie in Ashtabula County to the Ohio River in Columbiana County, featuring woodlands, fields and history with amenities at its various access points.

Starting at $3.23/week.
