Girard man accused of threat to kill

LIBERTY — A Girard man accused of threatening to kill his uncle is set to appear back in court for pretrial next week.

Christopher Golec, 31, pleaded not guilty to charges of domestic violence, aggravated menacing and violating a protection order in Girard Municipal Court on Tuesday.

According to a police report, Liberty police were called to the Days Inn on East Liberty Street for a welfare check, with the caller saying that her son was sending threatening text messages to her family and wished to have officers check on him.

The report states that the woman explained that Golec had been staying at the hotel for an extended period after his release from jail after he had “stabbed” her fiance .

She said the fiance had cut ties, but since the day of the report, Golec has been sending threatening messages to his brother and uncle, adding that he had an illness and suffers from mental health issues, for which he was not taking medicine.

The woman said Golec had stated he would “kill” his uncle, sending an image of a knife stabbed into the hotel room’s drywall and telling him that if he were going to shoot him, he better make it a good shot, according to the report.

The report states that, due to the nature of the threats and reports that Golec might have access to firearms, officers used a ballistic shield to approach the room. After several minutes of negotiation, Golec surrendered in the hallway.

Upon searching the room, officers discovered several stab marks in the drywall and recovered a folding knife that appeared to have drywall residue on it. Officers also noted drywall flakes on Golec’s clothing.

Upon being placed in custody, Golec said he was contacted by the woman’s fiance , contacting the man’s probation officer, according to the report. Golec said the fiance had “strangled” him, but did not call the police because he spoke to the probation officer.

The report states Golec denied sending any threatening messages.

Golec was booked into the Trumbull County jail on his charges, and he remains in custody on a $50,000 bail.

He’s set to appear back in court Feb. 4.

Starting at $3.23/week.
