Canfield school board bids farewell to three
CANFIELD — The Canfield Board of Education said goodbye to two members and a district official who are leaving their posts at its final meeting of 2025 this week.
Board members Traci DeCapua and Matt Campbell will be leaving the board, as will Pattie Prince, longtime treasurer of the district. All three were given a chance to address the board during the meeting.
DeCapua served on the board since she was elected in 2016. She said those years have been what she calls a roller coaster ride.
“In all those years, with all the turmoil of COVID and all that came from that, we never lost the focus of keeping the children first,” she said. “We as a board worked together well, each bringing our own skill sets to the mix.”
Board President Nader Atway said DeCapua was the most senior board member when he began his board career in 2022.
Atway also thanked Matt Campbell for all his efforts since he was elected in 2019. Campbell also helped Atway in his early years.
“I remember going back and forth of whether to run for the seat,” Campbell said. “I knew it was the right thing to do. As long as the focus remains on what is best for the kids, you can’t go wrong.”
Prince is stepping down after 39 years of service.
“I’ve attended between 500 to 600 meetings,” she said, “I guess it is time to step down.”
Atway told her, “We appreciate everything you’ve done.”
Also Wednesday, Superintendent Joe Knoll reported the Cyber Security Incident Response person is in place.
