Campbell schools receive $200K for dental clinic

Staff report

The Delta Dental Foundation has awarded $200,000 to Campbell City Schools to support the Mahoning Valley Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, which will operate within the Campbell Health and Community Development Center under construction in the city.

The Delta Dental Foundation funding will support eight fully equipped dental operatories within the MVWRC. The clinic will operate in partnership with Youngstown State University, Northeast Ohio Medical University and Mercy Health, serving as a dental care site and a clinical training location. Secondary students will complete prerequisite college coursework while adult learners and postsecondary students participate in hands-on clinical training, creating a clear pathway from education to employment in dental and health care fields.

The MVWRC will provide dental services to students, families and individuals with developmental disabilities from Campbell and surrounding communities, with support from partners including Purple Cat and Potential Development.

“We are grateful for the support of the Delta Dental Foundation and the many partners who believe in this work. Together, we are caring for today’s students and families while preparing a strong health care workforce for the future of the Mahoning Valley,” Campbell Superintendent Matthew Bowen said.

Youngstown State University President Bill Johnson added, “When schools, health care providers, and communities work together, something special happens. We’re grateful to be partnering with Campbell City Schools on this important venture. This clinic will serve as both a dental care site and a clinical training location, and will operate in partnership with YSU, NEOMED, Campbell City Schools, Mercy Health and other regional partners to give students real pathways into dental and health care careers, and create opportunities that strengthen both our workforce and our community, all while making sure families in Campbell and across the valley have access to quality oral health care. That’s exactly the kind of work Youngstown State is here to do.”

The Mahoning Valley Wellness and Rehabilitation Center is scheduled to begin program operations in August 2026.

Starting at $3.23/week.
