WHAT: Village council meeting Nov. 20

PRESENT: Kerry Reckard, John Metzinger, Kyle Joynes, Chad Jones, Don Smith and Mayor Ray Lewis

ABSENT: Sean Schmidt

Council:

● Heard from resident Ted Conway, who said he was discouraged by the ordinance to require village residents who work in other communities and pay income tax there to also be required to pay 1% to the village, He said someone who works in Niles pays 2% income tax in that city and then will be required to pay 1% income tax in the village. Conway said people moving into a village look at the property and income taxes. The ordinance passed second reading.

● Named Metzinger and Schmidt to the fire dependency board.

● Will seek Sustainable Transportation Planning grants for the paving of Second and Olive streets and a Transportation Alternative Program grant for sidewalk projects.

● Discussed possible future work to be done on West Seventh Street from McDonald Avenue to Ohio Avenue.

● Will seek a State Fire Marshal’s grant for breathing apparatus and gear for hazardous emergency situations.

● Set Christmas in the Village for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6.

● Heard from Lewis the homecoming festival committee will begin meeting in January to plan for the annual event.
