WHAT: City council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Reynald Paolone, Thomas Grumley, Jeff Kay, Keith Schubert, Lily Martuccio, John Moliterno, Sam Zirafi and Mayor Mark Zuppo

ABSENT: Mark Standohar

Council:

• Presented the “Willie Constantino Employee of the Month Award” to Bill Fleming of the city hall custodial staff and water department and Nick Colburn of the street department recognizing their service to the community.

• Heard from Zuppo of plans to change the end work date for park / recreation workers from Oct. 31 to Nov. 30 in 2026 since they are needed to do work at the parks later in the fall such as preparing for events such as Christmas in the Park.

• Voted against a motion to create a cemetery foreman position. Kay and Zirafi cast the “yes” votes.

• Approved submitting an application with Eastgate Regional Council of Governments for surface transportation block grant funding for resurfacing Highland Avenue from Morris Avenue to Churchill Road.

• Approved applying for funding through the Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program for a new senior transit van at cost not to exceed $110,000 with the city’s share estimated at $22,000 for the vehicle.

• Heard from Fire Chief Jim Petruzzi that the fire department is collecting coats for Emmanuel Care Center, which can be dropped off at the fire station.

• Approved an application to participate in the Eastgate Appalachian Regional Commission grant program for various projects.

• Scheduled a health and safety meeting with the police and fire chiefs at 6 p.m. Nov, 24 to discuss their equipment needs and finance meeting at 6:30 p.m.
