Man dies after South Side shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Kenny Stanton, 40, one of two men shot late Nov. 9 at a South Side store, has died, the Youngstown Police Department has confirmed.

Stanton was one of two men who suffered gunshot wounds along Market Street — one on the sidewalk and the other man inside a nearby store, according to a Youngstown police report.

One was in stable condition and the other was still in critical condition, Capt. Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Department said Monday. The man on the sidewalk had at least one gunshot wound. The other man had multiple gunshot wounds, the report states.

Police were called to the scene at 10:46 p.m.

Ambulance personnel transported both victims to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be treated. Crime-lab personnel and detectives arrived to carry out an investigation. The specific area of Market Street was blacked out in the report.

The death has been ruled a homicide and is the 10th one in the city this year.

The previous one was the Sept. 6, 2025, shooting death of Ahlycia Brown, 22, inside her apartment in the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue in the northwest corner of Youngstown.

The victim’s live-in girlfriend, Devyonna L. Taylor, 22, was charged with murder in the case and was taken to the Mahoning County jail, a Youngstown Police press release states. It refers to the killing as a “domestic homicide.”

The apartment complex, Valley View Estates, is located off of Salt Springs Road near the intersection of the 711 Connector and I-680.

Starting at $3.23/week.
