2 new members elected to Girard City Council
GIRARD — New faces will be appearing on City Council in 2026 for council-at-large and in the 2nd Ward.
Unofficial results in Tuesday’s general election had newcomer Democrats Tod Latell receiving 34% and Wes Steiner receiving 31% to win two of the three council-at-large seats, with incumbent Lily Martuccio retaining her seat with 28% of the vote.
Martuccio was the lone incumbent for council at-large as John Moliterno was elected to the 3rd Ward seat and Sam Zirafi chose not to seek reelection.
Mike Costarella was a write-in candidate for the race and received 7% of the vote.
In the 2nd Ward, newcomer James Clark was the top vote-getter, defeating Republican Dan Camuso. Unofficial results had Clark receiving 65% and Camuso 35%.
The seat became open after councilman Jeff Kay chose not to seek re-election.
Noncompetitive races in which incumbents had no opposition included Reynald Paolone as council president, Keith Schubert for 1st Ward, Moliterno for the 3rd Ward and Thomas Grumley for the 4th Ward.
Latell said he will work with city officials and council to promote growth.
“I have been attending council meetings since the beginning of the year, and I believe we have some great opportunities to improve our downtown area and other locations across the city,” he said before the election.
Martuccio, who has served eight years as councilwoman-at-large, said as chairwoman of the Wellman Theater committee, she will continue to pursue needed improvements and renovations to restore the theater for future use and focus on downtown revitalization in the city
Steiner said he wants to collaborate with other cities in Trumbull County to secure Community Housing Impact and Preservation funds to help low-to-moderate homeowners in Girard update and repair mechanical or structural deficiencies in their homes.
Clark said he will look at organizing and completing community improvement projects and seek grant programs and connect the right people to get projects done. He said he will see that Girard competes for funding dollars and for resources that can make a real difference in the community.
