Marshals arrest suspect following fatal hit-skip

YOUNGSTOWN — The driver suspected in a fatal hit-skip incident on Monday was arrested late Thursday afternoon by members of the U.S. Marshals-led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Laird Bruner, 42, was wanted by the Youngstown Police Department for aggravated vehicular homicide and hit-skip / leaving the scene of an accident.

On Monday morning, Joseph Novacich, 53, was walking on Loveland Road when he was hit by an SUV which then hit a utility trailer. The driver fled the scene. YPD investigated the incident and identified Bruner as the driver of the suspect vehicle. Warrants for Bruner’s arrest were issued earlier Thursday.

Members of the NOVFTF located and arrested Bruner at an address in the 1300 block of Albert Street in Youngstown. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Mahoning County jail.
