Hyundai building dealership on Route 422 Strip in Niles

NILES — The construction of a new Hyundai car dealership is revving up as crews are clearing the way for a business that city officials say will deliver jobs and hopefully boost a once-quiet, but growing stretch of U.S. Route 422.

The project covers about 3.7 acres, situated between the Gateway Galleria and a Dollar General store. The dealership aims to open in December 2026.

City leaders say it’s all about filling empty spots and making the area more lively. Work kicked off this summer on the site at 1112 Youngstown Warren Road.

The Trumbull County Auditor’s website lists a taxpayer address of 42 Pruitt Blvd., Akron, which is a Great Lakes Honda location, owned by Joey Huang.

Niles Mayor Steven Mientkiewicz said crews are removing trees and prepping the ground.

“We’re excited about this new spot bringing more energy to the upper end of the 422 strip,” he said. “That part of town was a bit forgotten, but now it’s growing fast. This fits our plan from years back to draw in businesses and help the ones already here.”

Nearby, at the corner of Youngstown Warren Road and state Route 46, another business is on the way.

A Take 5 Oil Change is rising from the location of the old LoanMax building at 6080 Youngstown Warren Road. The mayor said it’s in the “final phases” and could open any day now. Motorists can drive in, get their oil changed in minutes without stepping out of the car, and be back on the road fast.

Councilman Doug Solitto, D-at Large, gave a thumbs-up to how the developer is being respectful of nearby homes. The Hyundai site borders a neighborhood, so leaders listened hard to worried residents. After conversations with residents who live close by, developers added tall dirt mounds — up to 20 feet high — topped with 12-foot trees for privacy.

“Hyundai’s been super helpful with all our asks,” Solitto said. “They’re replanting every tree they touch down and won’t mess with the woods. This covers what residents need, and now everyone’s on board.”

Solitto pointed out the area’s big turnaround.

“I remember when those spots were just empty buildings, maybe even abandoned,” he said. “Now we’ve got a marijuana shop and more popping up all along 422. It’s nonstop growth.”

He added that Hyundai stores always do well wherever they land, and this one should bring steady customers.

Starting at $3.23/week.
