Mahoning prosecutor to present free People’s Law School in October

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro, in partnership with the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, will host People’s Law School, a free legal education lecture series for the public, next month.
The course will run 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.. every Wednesday in October at the Boardman Library. Each session will feature two topics presented by Maro and a variety of guest speakers, including assistant prosecutors, judges and other legal professionals.
The session dates are Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. The Boardman Library is at 7680 Glenwood Ave.
In a news release, Maro said she is looking forward to providing education to the community and answering questions about the justice system.
Topics will include information about the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office and its criminal and civil divisions, constitutional rights, plea bargaining, misdemeanors, OVI, human trafficking, sting operations, specialty courts, foreclosures, evictions, zoning, juvenile law, wills and estates.
Time will be provided each evening for questions and discussion with the speakers.

The first week will cover criminal prosecution and plea bargaining in the first hour and misdemeanors and OVI in the second hour.
The second week will cover human trafficking and sting operations in the first hour and specialty courts, including the Mahoning County Drug Court, Mental Health Court and Veterans Court, in the second hour.
The third week will cover the county prosecutor’s office civil division and zoning in the first hour and delinquent tax, foreclosures and evictions in the second hour.
The fourth week will cover the Constitution and understanding your rights in the first hour and juvenile law in the second hour.
The fifth week will cover juvenile law in the first hour and wills and estates in the second hour.
