Drug charges net city man 7 years in federal prison
Rashad W. Akbar, 36, of Vermont Avenue in Youngstown was sentenced to seven years in federal prison Monday in U.S. District Court and six years of supervised release after he leaves prison.
He pleaded guilty earlier to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Judge Charles E. Fleming in Cleveland oversaw Akbar’s case.
According to an affidavit in support of a criminal complaint filed Sept. 4, 2024, by an FBI agent, the FBI executed a search warrant Sept. 4, 2024, at Akbar’s home in Youngstown. Agents found a bag containing about 10 grams of suspected fentanyl in a safe in a closet of the master bedroom.
Also found was a plastic bag containing suspected powder cocaine in a drawer of a black cabinet in the basement, the affidavit states.
Another plastic bag contained about 250 grams of suspected crack cocaine divided into 28-gram packages. It tested positive for cocaine hydrochloride. About $3,000 in cash was found on the bed in the master bedroom, the affidavit states.
Three firearms and ammunition were found in a safe in the master bedroom, it states.
