Boardman school board recognizes store owners
BOARDMAN — The Board of Education began its Monday meeting at West Boulevard Elementary by recognizing Boardman Grocery Outlet owners Sarah and Eric Senges for their continued support of Boardman schools.
They donated 5% of their sales ($600) from Sept. 13 to the West Boulevard PTA. The Senges also were nominated to the Ohio School Board Association’s Business Honor Roll for 2025. They have sponsored several Community Day givebacks at various Boardman buildings, have supported various teacher appreciation days and volunteered to walk in the Memorial Day Parade with Robinwood Elementary.
Also recognized were the West Wisdom newspaper editor and staff. The staff consists of third graders, Brooklyn Cook, Charley Westrem, Emilia Ingram, Jack Lorenzi, Kevin Price, Alena Nichols, Evelyn Nurse, Leighton Baco, Adeline Candella and Selena Farragher. They are led by school librarian Sabrina Beradino.
During the public comments portion of the meeting, Boardman resident Kristina Pavlicko expressed concerns regarding the group bus stops in her neighborhood. The board said they would evaluate the issue.
In other business, the board:
• Granted a one-year limited contract for Connie Felicetty as a part-time cafeteria server at West Boulevard Elementary at a salary of $7,918. She is replacing Carla DeCarlo.
• Granted a one-year limited contract for Joanne Gardner as a part-time noontime monitor at Stadium Drive Elementary School at a salary of $5,006.13. She is replacing Erin Parker.
• Granted a one-year limited contract for Yvonne Hitt as a health aid at St. Charles School at a salary of $37,840.25). She is replacing Angela Burns.
• Granted a one-year limited contract for Danette Loebel as a teacher aide at West Boulevard Elementary at a salary of $25,623.34. She is replacing Gayle Barnett.
• Granted a one-year limited contract for April Sanfilippo for an additional position as a mid-day preschool van driver at a salary of $7,925.06. She is replacing Joyce Berry.
• Approved Christine Chasko as a Title I Tutor as hourly staff at $22 per hour, not to exceed 29.5 hours per week, and not to exceed 1,100 hours per year for the 2025-26 school year.
• Approved as volunteers Mike Christman, Boardman High School girls golf coach; and Michael O’Horo, Boardman High School varsity football coach.
• Approved Juliana De Paula, Joanne Gardner and Debra Mindy as substitutes for the 2025-26 school year.
• Approved the transfer of Basema Abukhdeir from a teacher aide at Robinwood Lane Elementary School to a teacher aide-intensive needs at Boardman Center Intermediate School at a salary of $28,095.42. She also will receive an additional supplement of $6,000 for Intensive Needs Aide for Cross-Categorical Rooms and Behavior Support Rooms. She is replacing Richard Troisi.
• Approved the transfer of Rachelle Fleet from Cleaning I at West Boulevard Elementary School to a Teacher Aide-Intensive Needs at West Boulevard Elementary School for the 2025-26 school year at a salary of $26,822.09. She also will receive an additional supplement of $6,000 for Intensive Needs Aide for Cross-Categorical Rooms and Behavior Support Rooms. She is replacing Kailyn Clark.
• Approved the transfer of Natasha LaVolpa from an Independent Aide Library at Boardman Center Intermediate School and Boardman Glenwood Junior High School to a Teacher Aide-Intensive Needs at Boardman Center Intermediate School at a salary of $26,890.15. She also will receive an additional supplement of $6,000 for Intensive Needs Aide for the Cross-Categorical Rooms and Behavior Support Rooms. She is replacing Krys Baklarz.
• Approved the following resignations: Jack Hockensmith bus driver; Mindy Lapp, Boardman High School cafeteria server; Susan Mattix, Boardman High School cafeteria server; Deborah McCabe, Robinwood Lane cafeteria server; and Renee Robek, Boardman High School cafeteria server.
• Approved a stipend of $11,000 for Kristin Conroy for Title I Coordinator for the 2025-26 school year to be paid with Title I Federal Funds spread through 24 pays.
• Approved the financial report submitted by Treasurer Arthur Ginetti and available for public viewing at https://go.boarddocs.com/oh/blsd/Board.nsf/Public
• Approved the following donations for West Boulevard Elementary: $200 from Amy Allen to the principal’s fund for field trips and supplies; $100 from Lloyd Griffith to the principal’s fund for supplies; $200 from Janie Morckel at Bethel Lutheran Church to the principal’s fund for supplies; $200 from Jason and Traci Western to the principal’s fund for supplies; $100 from Mario LaMarca to the principal’s fund for supplies; and Jennifer Fellows, LST Investments and Sport Clips for supplies.
• Approved the following donations for Boardman High School: $500 from Mike and Angel Trell for Yes Fest; $174 fundraiser donation from Kathy Minerd, xPert Design; $232 fundraiser donation from Mark Lipinsky at Second Sole; and $2,000 from Debbie Liptak, Boardman High School Class of 1975 Reunion Committee, for umbrellas for the courtyard.
• Approved the following donations for Boardman Food Service: $25 from Marybeth Mershimer to Nick’s Kids Fund, and $146.90 from nine graduating seniors remaining lunch balances to the Angel Fund.
• Approved an invoice for payment from ACCESS Council in the amount of $12,752.86 for a data map for fiscal year 2026.
• Approved a resolution declaring transportation impractical for the 2025-26 year for students at St. Charles.
• Approved service agreements with AarisTherapy Group for therapy services, Building Technicians Corp. for a roof replacement at Stadium Drive Elementary at $108,600, Trumbull County Educational Service Center for hearing services, and Ameresco for a $23,972 change order to the replacement of the high school cooling tower and chiller.
