3 injured by weekend gunfire in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN — A person was shot through the calf and a second person had a superficial gunshot wound to the leg in a 2:31 a.m. Saturday incident on Rush Boulevard at East Boston Avenue.
A man also was shot in the lower back in a separate incident on Burlington Street on the North Side around 9:45 p.m. Sunday. And people in two cars were shooting at each other at East Lucius Avenue and Zedaker Street Sunday night, but no one apparently was hurt, according to a police report.
The Rush Boulevard shootings began with two people in a Chevy Tahoe traveling on Rush behind a Jeep with a temporary tag that abruptly pulled into a driveway of a home in the 3000 block of Rush Boulevard while the driver of the vehicle behind tried to pull into the driveway of another residence nearby.
The people in the vehicle behind heard gunfire. One of the victims heard gunfire hit their vehicle, and then the person was hit in the leg by a bullet. Afterwards, one of the people drove to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where officers arrived before the victims entered the hospital.
Officers saw one person in a wheelchair being taken into the emergency room. The other victim told a similar story, saying he or she does not know why anyone would have targeted him or her. One of the victims was in stable condition later. Police found bullet shell casings and broken glass in the 3100 block of Rush Boulevard. One of the two drove both victims to the hospital with one of them having a leg wound that went in and through the person’s calf. The person was in stable but serious condition, a police report states.
BURLINGTON
Little information was provided on the shooting on Burlington, only that a report of a shooting brought officers there at 9:45 p.m. They saw the man in the grass with a gunshot wound to his lower back, a report states. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment and was in stable condition later, a police report states.
SHOOTOUT
The shootout was at 9:49 p.m. Sunday at East Lucius Avenue and Zedaker Street, also on the South Side, for gunfire and a crash. When they arrived, a black 2016 Dodge Challenger was wrecked with heavy front end damage and no one inside. An officer saw a handgun with a drum roll magazine on it on the dashboard, a report states.
Police determined that the car was stolen out of Campbell.
The second vehicle was a 2017 black Dodge Charger. It had heavy rear-end damage and no one inside.
An officer saw two spent bullet shell casings in the Charger. It was reported stolen out of Cleveland. Officers were provided with a video of the accident. It showed that the people in the two cars were apparently shooting at each other and apparently wrecked into each other on purpose.
All of the suspects got out of the cars and fled on foot, the report states. No victims were reported at the hospital. A house on Lucius Avenue was struck by gunfire, but nobody inside was hit.
