West Nile virus found in Poland
POLAND TOWNSHIP — Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus were caught in a surveillance trap in Poland Township by the Mahoning County Public Health Department.
No human cases of the virus have been reported in Mahoning County.
Public health said that while the detection was in Poland, the virus could be present in mosquito populations throughout the county. The virus is more prevalent in mosquitoes in the late summer and early fall, according to public health officials.
Early symptoms of West Nile Virus include nausea, fever, vomiting and headaches, with more serious cases causing drowsiness, stiff neck, disorientation, tremors and possibly seizures.
