Man accused of breaking into home of legislator, judge

LISBON — A Columbiana man will face arraignment this morning for disrupting public services, but is expected to face additional charges after being accused of breaking into the New Waterford home of state Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel and Seventh District Court of Appeals Judge Carol Robb.

Nathan A. Johnson, 29, West Railroad Street, was taken into custody Tuesday, with the fourth-degree felony charge filed in Columbiana County Municipal Court by Sgt. B.N. Deack of the county sheriff’s office.

“On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, there was an incident at our home, and unfortunately members of my family were present. We want to commend the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department, dispatchers and local police departments who promptly responded and professionally managed the situation. The alleged perpetrator is currently in custody and our family is safe,” Robb Blasdel, R-New Waterford, said in a written statement issued Wednesday.

The incident happened at the Hatcher Road residence where Robb Blasdel and her family live. Her family includes her mother, Judge Carol Robb, and her father Ken, along with her husband, former state Rep. Chuck Blasdel, and their children.

According to the affidavit filed by Deack, he was dispatched to the Hatcher Road property for a burglary in progress. He spoke with the victim, identified on the document as C.R.B. II, with the same birthdate as Chuck Blasdel, and “learned that the defendant, Nathan A. Johnson, picked up a wooden chair, broke through a glass door on the west side of the residence, and then entered the residence, and stole the victim’s cell phone out of his hand as he was calling 911, then left the residence with the victim’s cell phone.”

Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino said once the investigation is complete, “we expect more charges to be filed.”

He said the defendant just showed up there and some type of disturbance occurred. He had no further details.

A call was placed to Sheriff Brian McLaughlin for additional information, but was not returned.

The arraignment will take place via video at 8:30 a.m. today in county municipal court.

Monica Robb Blasdel represents the 79th District of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the majority of residents in Columbiana County and all of Carroll County. Judge Carol Robb previously served on the bench in county municipal court before being elected to the appellate court in Youngstown, which also serves Columbiana County.
