YOUNGSTOWN — Wanting to be more centrally located and have a more welcoming space for meetings, the Mahoning County Democratic Party is moving its headquarters.
The party has been located at 5111 Market St. in Boardman for the past seven or eight years and will move, no later than Sept. 1, to a space in the Cornersburg Professional Plaza at 3507 Canfield Road in Youngstown, said Chairman Chris Anderson.
“We love this new location because it is equidistant to all of the suburbs and is in the city,” he said. “This gives us a lot more room to grow. It’s built for what we want.”
The new headquarters is having its carpets removed and the floors will be replaced with wood, Anderson said.
“The layout of the new headquarters is better for us,” he said. “It has large meeting spaces and office space so our clubs and caucuses as well as party meetings and candidate events can be held there. Our current space has served us well, but we’ve outgrown it.”
The party has five clubs and two caucuses.
Anderson said, “The location is better. When we launch canvases in Youngstown, we have to ask people to go to our headquarters at Boardman to meet and then head back to Youngstown.”
Those who want to donate money to help defray some of the moving costs can do so on the party’s website, mahoningdemocrats.org.
Also, those who want to help with the move, especially those with trucks, can email Anderson at chair@ mahoningcountydemo craticparty.com.
“We’re moving our entire office and then reestablishing it so it will be a lot of work,” Anderson said. “We’re going to be creating a more welcoming space. We’re excited to take the next step to grow our party. The new space has a large open floor plan. This is a nicer space for hosting.”
The party’s annual hall of fame dinner is Aug. 14 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 349 Via Mount Carmel in Youngstown. The party is inducting four new members and honoring Audrey Tillis, the recently retired county administrator, with its first trailblazer award named in honor of Joyce Kale-Pesta. Tickets are $100 each.
A day later, the party will have its annual picnic and family fun night at the St. Maron’s Pavilion, 1555 Meridian Road in Youngstown. Tickets are $15 in advance and $25 for a couple with children under 14 free.
In May, the Mahoning County Republican Party had a grand reopening of its headquarters at 8381 Market St. in Boardman. The party has operated out of that location for about 10 years.
The Republicans expanded their headquarters by about 1,200 square feet.
