Attendance at Trumbull fair dips slightly

BAZETTA — With mostly cooperative warm weather and new attractions, the six-day Trumbull County Fair saw approximately 45,000 visitors come through the gates last week.

Kierstin Holmes, a director and secretary for the Trumbull County Fair Board, said the board was pleased with the turnout, which was slightly lower than past fairs, but still a good attendance.

Daily attendance was 9,517 on Tuesday for opening day; 5,386 on Wednesday; 3,870 on Thursday; 8,036 on Friday; 8,250 on Saturday; and 9,600 on Sunday.

Holmes said the final day of the fair did well because of the demolition derby, which is always a popular event.

She said other attractions this year included the milkshake stand, clowns and a Stone Age show with dinosaur animatronics. Holmes said with the exception of a few rainstorms on Thursday, the fair had very cooperative weather.

Total fair attendance in 2024 was 44,980 over its six-day span, about 300 more than this year. This was a slight decrease from the 48,237 patrons who attended the fair in 2023 and nearly 47,000 visitors who came in 2022.

She said the new 4-H building on the west side of the fairgrounds was also an attraction for visitors to see. The building also was used during various events at the nearby horse ring.

“People told me how much they liked the new building.” she said.

The fair board celebrated the building’s completion with a ribbon cutting a few weeks ago. American Rescue Plan money was used to cover the cost of the entire $685,000 project.

The 2026 fair, the 180th edition, is scheduled for July 14 to 19.

Other events being planned at the fairgrounds for the rest of the year include harvest fun weekend Sept. 19 and 20, and hayrides and haunted house weekends in October.

Starting at $3.23/week.
