Arraignment set for man after chase, gunfire
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — Jerome Shaughnessy, 53, was booked into the Mahoning County jail Tuesday for a July 19 chase on Interstate 680 southbound in the city, which involved gunfire.
Officers spoke with a victim on the city’s North Side. An investigation was carried out, and a report was filed, a police report states.
The report does not provide any details on whether anyone was shot or how seriously anyone may have been hurt.
On Monday, police were alerted that the North Jackson Police Department had come into contact with Shaughnessy, who had an active warrant in Youngstown Municipal Court for felonious assault in the July 19 incident.
Mahoning County jail records indicate that Milton Township police was the arresting agency. However, the Youngstown police report states that North Jackson police took Shaughnessy to the Mahoning County jail.
A Youngstown police detective filed the felonious assault charge against Shaughnessy on Friday, according to court records.
Shaughnessy is scheduled for arraignment on the charge at 1:30 p.m. today.
He is charged with the second-degree felony, punishable by about eight years in prison if convicted.
