Alert about missing boy leads to his return

YOUNGSTOWN — A small boy who was found alone at the intersection of Oak Hill and Willis avenues on the South Side shortly before 6 a.m. was reunited with his family Wednesday morning after police asked for news media assistance in finding a family member.
A news release went out at 8:22 a.m. Wednesday, asking for the news media to alert the public that the boy was found and was taken to the Youngstown Police Department to ensure his well-being.
The news release contained photos of the boy and asked the public to help identify him.
Mahoning County Children’s Services was assisting with the effort. The boy’s communication skills were limited, and authorities were having trouble obtaining information about him. He appeared to be about 5 years old, the release stated.
At 8:43 a.m., a second release was sent stating that a family member had been located and thanking the news media “for the quick response to our identification request.”
