St. Patrick Festival opens in Hubbard

The 67th Hubbard St. Patrick Church Festival opens today at 225 N. Main St., Hubbard.

The entertainment lineup includes No Funk No Justice at 6:30 p.m. today, Dr. Zoots Band at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Chris Higbee at 8 p.m. Saturday, and the Feral Cats Band at 1 p.m. Sunday and Old Skool at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The grand prize for this year's raffle is a new Chevrolet Trailblazer or $20,000 cash.

Festival hours are 6 to 10 p.m. today, 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Church Boys Racing hosts car show

The Church Boys Racing car show and open house runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 6040 state Route 45, Bristolville.

Cars from all over the country and Canada will be in attendance. The majority of the vehicles will be Chevy Novas, but all hot rods are welcome.

Special guests include Farmtruck and AZN from Discovery Channel’s "Street Outlaws."

Youngstown, Mercer bands play Boardman concert

The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will be joined by the Mercer County Community Band for its annual "Music In The Park With Friends” concert at Boardman Park.

YACCB will open the 4 p.m. Sunday concert with a 45-minute set of Broadway classics, including music from "The Phantom of the Opera,' "Evita" and "The Music Man."

The Mercer Band's performance will include "The Klaxon March" and selections from "Jersey Boys."

Admission is free. The idea for the concert started when YACCB was invited to perform with the Somerset (Pa.) concert band. Over the years bands from Steubenville, Ashtabula, Kettering, Hudson, Canfield and others have performed with the YACCB at Boardman Park.

Concert celebrates 100th birthday of pipe organ

An event celebrating the 100th birthday of the Wurlitzer pipe organ that used to be at Youngstown's Palace Theatre will take place Sunday at C&C Ribbon & Floral, 8204 South Ave., Boardman.

Ian Fraser, a concert organist who specializes in silent film accompaniment, will perform at 2:30 p.m. on the organ, which was shipped to Youngstown from the New York factory on Aug. 12, 1925.

Admission is free, and the event is presented by Victor Organ LLC and C&C, where the organ has been restored and installed.

Method 8 plans annual movie premiere on August 9

Method 8 will have its annual movie premiere on Aug. 9 at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave. Boardman.

Written and directed by Brian K. West, "Radio & Podcast Adventures the Movie" is the story of a group of radio and podcast enthusiasts who enter a contest in hopes of winning the $500,000 prize. The movie about the challenges ordinary people face in their pursuit of the American Dream stars West, Bhris Franklin, Marvin Reese, Kewon Conner, Wynston Andrews and Joyce Jones.

Tickets for the 6 p.m. event are $30 in advance and $35 at the door and also include food, a fashion show by Linda Jennings and Lynn McElroy and the band Jeff Green & the Jazz in the Park All-Stars.

Taco festival canceled

The Taco and Margarita Festival at Eastwood Field, already rescheduled once, has been canceled.

According to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the cancellation of Saturday's event is due to the outside promotions company restructuring its business model, and, as a result, it is unable to fulfill its obligations for the event.

JCC sets film screening

The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival, in partnership with Simply Slavic, will screen the movie, "One Life," at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.

"One Life" is based on the true story of Sir Nicholas Winton and his heroic deeds during World War II by helping Jewish families get their children out of the Czech Republic before the borders closed. The film stars Anthony Hopkins and Lena Olin and is rated PG.

Admission is free (donations will be accepted at the door), but registration is required by today at jccyoungstown.org/filmfest.

MVHS celebrates Harry Burt with free ice cream

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will celebrate National Ice Cream Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Admission will be free at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown, which was once the business location for Harry Burt, the confectioner who invented the Good Humor bar.

The barbershop quartet Exhibit A will perform, and there will be free ice cream courtesy of Livi Steel. The event is sponsored by Joy Baking Group.

TCHS offers bus tour of Trumbull township squares

Trumbull County Historical Society will have bus tours of Trumbull township squares on Saturday.

The two-hour tour with guided stops will cover the New England roots of the township squares throughout the county, their historic buildings and anecdotes about the communities that grew around these hubs.

Ghost Walk seeks actors for October tours

Auditions for Trumbull County's annual Ghost Walk will be at 6 p.m. July 26 at Art on Park, 180 N. Park Ave., Warren.

Eight roles, including two non-speaking roles, are available. Auditions are open to those ages 13 and older, and all races, genders and experience levels are invited to participate. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script.

This year's "Ghost Host" is Zell Hart Deming, the former owner of The Tribune Chronicle, and the October tours will highlight her history and contributions.

PBS hosts State of the Station events next week

PBS Western Reserve is inviting the public to attend one of two State of the Station events next week.

Public television and radio stations in Ohio and nationwide are facing threats of funding cuts from the state and federal governments.

President and CEO Natalie Pillsbury will provide an update on upcoming PBS Western Reserve initiatives, strategic plan and FY26 budget. Light refreshments will be offered along with complimentary station tours.

Warren Chalk on the Walk rescheduled for Saturday

After being rained out in June, Chalk on the Walk and Youth Art Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at downtown Warren's Courthouse Square.

Children will be able to create sidewalk art with free chalk.

Other activities include face painting, a scavenger hunt, photos and a truck tour with the Warren Fire Department, Spider-Man and Moana costumed characters and entertainment by Crash the Great, Howland's Steel Tigers Drum Band and Kent State University at Trumbull Summer Stock.

Admission is free.

Stambaugh Auditorium hosts doo wop show

Tickets go on sale Friday for a concert featuring the music of The Coasters, The Drifters and The Platters.

Those doo wop acts from the 1950s all are Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, and their hits include "Yakety Yak," "Under the Boardwalk" and "The Great Pretender."

McGuffy series offers WWII interment camps program

A program on Japanese internment camps during World War II will be offered by the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society as part of its Memories of a Lifetime series.

Mark Masaki, a Youngstown State University emeritus psychology professor, will talk about his family's experience living in the detention camps in California.

Following the bombing at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, multi-generational families were forced to relocate into temporary housing set up in several states and subsist on government rations.

The program starts at 10 a.m. July 19 at Denny's meeting room, 4020 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Admission is $10 for McGuffey members and $15 for nonmembers. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 330-726-8277.

Rodeo returns to Lisbon

Hoppel's Championship Rodeo celebrates its 40th anniversary this weekend with events at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Hoppel's Arena, state Route 518, Lisbon. Friday's rodeo will include a veterans night tribute and a fireworks finale. Saturday's activities include the Silver Spurs Drill Team and an afterparty with classic country DJ Jess Roth. Rodeo clown Kyler "Bam Bam" Collins and live music by Curt Conser will be featured both days. Those attending are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for seating. Tickets are $15 in advance and are available through Eventbrite or can be purchased at the gate for $20 for adults and $15 for children.

Millionaires' Row tour offered

The Trumbull County Historical Society will offer a walking tour of Warren's Millionaires' Row at 10 a.m. July 12. Participants will see the historic homes along Mahoning Avenue NW and learn about the architecture of the house and the families who built them. Jewish genealogy program planned

A program on "Nuts & Bolts of Jewish Genealogy" is scheduled at 11 a.m. July 13 at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, as part of the J. Newman Levy lecture series. Ken Bravo, past president of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies and a past president of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland, will guide both beginners and experienced researchers through the process of uncovering their Jewish heritage.
