Two inmates stabbed in gang-related fight
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — Two inmates at the private Northeast Ohio Correctional Center on Hubbard Road were stabbed Wednesday afternoon in a gang-related fight in the dayroom of the prison, a Youngstown police report states.
A Youngstown police officer went to the East Side prison following notification of a “large fight involving five inmates” at 2:02 p.m. Wednesday.
He met with an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction investigator, who said the fight was gang related. Camera footage was being prepared for the police department, according to the report.
The two victims, ages 37 and 31, were treated in the prison for their injuries. The 37-year-old was then taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for further treatment after being stabbed near his eyelid. He was listed in stable condition, the report states.
Prison staff collected two makeshift knives, both about 11 inches in length. The report states the shanks were made of aluminum, possibly from a ladder.
